Summit Artspace, Akron

About Summit Artspace

Summit Artspace is a nonprofit artist incubator in downtown Akron that invites visitors to explore five galleries displaying rotating exhibitions four times each year. The historic building houses affordable studios where resident artists work, and the public can access exhibitions at no charge. Visitors experience current shows in spaces like the Betty & Howard Taylor Main Gallery, where installations such as Prismatic Echoes feature responsive technology. Summit Artspace hosts Art After Hours on monthly Thursday evenings, featuring curated activities including artist talks, live drawing workshops, demonstrations of techniques like glass screen printing and enameling, and dance performances. Resident artists lead hands-on experiences such as image transfer activities and zine-making workshops. The venue also presents professional development programs serving artists throughout their careers. A visit suits anyone interested in contemporary art and connecting with local creative communities. The historic 1927 building, originally the Akron Beacon Journal headquarters, stands in Akron's Historic Arts District and serves as a hub for artists and arts supporters.
