Summerfield Zoo in Belvidere, Illinois features exotic animals and wildlife exhibits where visitors walk the grounds to observe and learn about the animals. The zoo houses a diverse collection including mountain lions, river otters, arctic wolves, grey wolves, bobcats, Siberian lynx, ring-tailed lemurs, two-toed sloths, capybaras, red kangaroos, zebras, alligators, tortoises, and various birds such as peacocks and pheasants. Daily animal shows run on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Visitors can participate in additional activities including feeding baby goats with bottles, feeding adult goats, and playing with bubble wand enrichment. The zoo also offers private animal encounters with sloths, capybaras, or lemurs. Summer camp programs allow children ages six through twelve to spend a week caring for zoo animals as junior zookeepers. A gift shop and snack shop are on-site. The zoo is conveniently located near Rockford and just minutes from Interstate 90.
