About Stockton Maritime Museum, Home of the USS Lucid

The Stockton Maritime Museum preserves the city's shipbuilding heritage through tours of the USS Lucid, an Aggressive-class ocean-going minesweeper built in 1953. Visitors board this multi-level vessel, the last of its class remaining in the United States, and experience life as a Navy seaman with guidance from veterans who navigate guests through the ship's interior. The USS Lucid served the Navy for 23 years until 1976. The museum documents Stockton's role as an inland maritime waypoint during the Gold Rush era and its later contributions to American defense through wartime vessel construction at local shipyards including Colberg Boat Works. The museum, founded in 2010 as a nonprofit organization, continues restoration efforts on the USS Lucid and hosts biannual open houses in spring and fall. A future museum building is planned for the downtown waterfront, originally developed in the 1840s as moorage and freight sheds. The museum operates in Stockton, California.
