About Science Building and Planetarium

Located beneath the iconic copper dome of the Lamar Johanson Science Building in Stephenville, the planetarium seats 86 visitors in a full-dome immersive theater. The Digistar projection system combined with 5.1 Dolby surround sound presents digital astronomy presentations that bring the wonders of space to audiences of all ages. The facility hosts children's matinees and special holiday presentations throughout the year, including shows like "One World One Sky," where Sesame Street characters Big Bird and Elmo explore the night sky, and "Lamps of Atlantis," a 40-minute presentation examining ancient Greek astronomy and constellations. Beyond planetarium shows, the 86-seat theater also serves as a lecture hall for film studies and a venue for guest speakers and musicians. Teachers from public, private, and home-school settings may arrange group visits for science enrichment. The facility welcomes private and special showings for organizations and outside groups by request.
