About Pistol Creek Wetland Center

Pistol Creek Wetland Center is an educational facility in Maryville displaying native birds, plants, and animals in a preserved natural setting. Visitors explore the center on a self-guided tour along walkways lined with informational signs that explain wetlands ecology and the specific characteristics of Pistol Creek. The signage helps guests understand how wetlands function as natural filtration systems, reducing pollutants and filtering excess nutrients from waterways. The center accommodates individuals, families, students, and organizations interested in learning about the local ecosystem. School groups and civic organizations can arrange educational visits, with staff available to provide information supporting classroom curricula and group programs. The facility originated in the late 1990s on preserved land at Montvale Station Road. Long-term management involves expertise from university wetlands ecology specialists to maintain the sapling grove and its native inhabitants for future generations to study and appreciate. Bus parking is available. Parking is limited.
