About Nicho of the South Mural

Nicho of the South Mural is a colorful public artwork located on the West Wall of Society restaurant in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Completed by local muralist Whitney Herrington in 2020, the mural draws inspiration from Mexican folk art called Nichos and gospel music born in Lawrenceburg. The composition features a pair of gorgeous wings positioned at the center, inviting visitors to stand in front for photographs. Guitars and magnolias are incorporated throughout the design to symbolize music and Southern heritage. A banner reading "Lawrenceburg, Tennessee" tops the mural, crowned with a tri-star. The bright, highly decorative artwork exemplifies the Nicho style, characterized by vivid colors and a striking central figure. Visitors can view this public mural and capture photos at this downtown location.
