About Lake Jackson Mounds State Park

Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park preserves six of seven known earthen temple mounds built by Native Americans more than eight centuries ago, located north of Tallahassee. Two mounds are available for public viewing. The park features two hiking trails: an interpretive trail that passes through remnants from Florida's Territorial Period and early statehood, including a historic grist mill, and a nature trail winding through sandhill habitat with native trees and plants. Picnic tables sit within view of the two largest mounds. A pavilion accommodates family gatherings and special occasions on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved in advance. Guided tours are available by request. The park offers wildlife viewing and bird-watching opportunities throughout its grounds. Hours and admission information are published on the park's website.
