About Glens Falls Art

Glens Falls Art operates a traveling tintype studio that creates 19th-century style portrait photographs using traditional wet plate collodion processes. Visitors have their portraits taken with photographer Craig Murphy's reproduction camera and authentic 19th-century lens, producing tintype images that capture the aesthetic of early photography. The studio appears at regional events and community celebrations throughout the Adirondacks. Glens Falls Art participates in World Wet Plate Day, an international celebration of historical photographic techniques, offering demonstrations and art talks about the wet plate process. The studio also sets up at venues during community days, where visitors can learn about 19th-century photography while having their own tintype portraits made. The traveling exhibition combines historical education with hands-on artistic experience, allowing participants to observe the wet plate collodion process firsthand and understand the technical methods that shaped early photographic practice. Glens Falls Art operates in West Glens Falls, New York.
