Elm Springs is a fourteen-room historic house in Columbia where visitors tour the home, walk the grounds, and explore a family cemetery. Built in 1837 by two brothers as a gift for their sister, the house retains its original architectural details and historical integrity despite damage during the Civil War and twentieth-century neglect. The Sons of Confederate Veterans have owned and operated the property since 1992. Guided tours depart from the Museum Giftshop, where volunteers lead visitors through period rooms displaying furnishings and artifacts. While waiting for a tour, guests can browse the giftshop, walk the grounds, or visit the National Confederate Museum, a recently constructed building on the property that houses the organization's international headquarters and exhibits related to Confederate history. Tours are offered Monday through Friday and depend on guide availability. The site suits history enthusiasts interested in antebellum architecture and local heritage.
