About El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park

El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park preserves the site of the last Spanish military fortress built in Alta California. Set between the Santa Ynez mountains and the sea in downtown Santa Barbara, the park interprets the region's diverse cultural history, beginning with the Chumash people. Visitors explore interpretive exhibits and museums that tell the story of this historic outpost and its significance to California's past. The park offers guided tours, family programs, and environmental learning opportunities through its visitor center. Restrooms and drinking water are available on-site. The park sits surrounded by the modern city, creating a unique contrast between historical preservation and contemporary Santa Barbara. It accepts the Free Fourth Grade Pass and the Historian Passport Day Use Admission Annual Pass.
