About Crisson Gold Mine

Crisson Gold Mine is an open-air mining attraction where visitors pan for gold and sift for gemstones under instruction from professional staff. Established in 1969, the site features hands-on activities including gold panning with one sample pan of dirt per guest and gem sifting from a two-gallon bucket of gemstone-rich material. Visitors learn to identify rubies, sapphires, emeralds, garnets, and amethyst, and keep all findings. The self-guided museum tour showcases authentic historic mining equipment and includes access to a working stamp mill from the 1800s—one of the few still operating in Georgia. The stamp mill's ten 450-pound stamps crush gold-bearing rock for processing. The site also houses the largest rock and mineral shop in North Georgia, a gift shop, and a gem-cutting service that transforms finds into jewelry. Seasonal heated indoor panning provides covered-outdoor alternatives. The attraction suits visitors interested in Georgia's gold rush history and hands-on mining experiences. Crisson Gold Mine is located in Dahlonega, Georgia.
