About Cascade Caverns

Cascade Caverns is a cave attraction in Boerne where visitors take guided underground tours through passages reaching 230 feet deep and spanning roughly half a mile long. The caverns contain mineral formations grown over millions of years, including stalactites hanging from ceilings, stalagmites rising from floors, draperies formed by flowing mineral water, and columns. Three tour options explore different sections: the DownUnder Tour through the Upper Cave, the Aquifer Tour through the Lower Cave, and the Flashlight Tour during evening hours. Visitors should wear clothes and shoes able to get wet, as the cave surface is wet. Above ground, the site offers a gem and rock shop, a mining sluice for treasure hunting, and nature trails totaling 1.5 miles. The caverns, first discovered by Lipan Apache people in the 1700s and later rediscovered by Kendall County youth in the 1840s, became Texas's first private-touring cave in the 1870s and opened publicly in 1932. A campground provides RV and tent camping. The average temperature inside remains 63 degrees.
