About Bok Kai Temple Museum

Bok Kai Temple Museum in Marysville is one of the oldest continuously operating Chinese temples in North America and the only Taoist temple in the United States with Bok Eye, the water god, as its central deity. Visitors tour the historic temple and adjacent old Chinese School, viewing rare exterior murals depicting Chinese cultural traditions found nowhere else. The museum hosts the annual Bok Kai Weekend festival, which features a classic Chinese folk tale puppet show, guided temple tours, and interactive activities for children. Participants can create horse masks, attempt to toss lucky charms into the Bok Kai horse statue to receive lucky necklaces, and color horse puzzles while enjoying fortune cookies and juice. Children who complete the mask-making workshop are invited to ride on the Royal Horse Float in the Bok Kai parade. The story, tour, and workshop activities accommodate children of all ages, with adult supervision required for children under five.
