About The Lost Sea Adventure

The Lost Sea Adventure features a guided tour of the historic Craighead Caverns culminating with a boat ride on America's largest underground lake, located 140 feet below ground near Sweetwater, Tennessee. The three-quarter mile round-trip tour lasts about an hour and fifteen minutes and showcases rare crystalline structures called anthodites, or cave flowers, found in only a few caves worldwide. Visitors observe remnants of the caverns' past use by Cherokee Indians, Confederate soldiers, and a prehistoric Jaguar from over 20,000 years ago. Electric-powered excursion boats carry guests onto the four-and-a-half acre visible portion of the lake, which stretches 800 feet long by 220 feet wide. A new entry building with a modern ticket center and gift shop greets visitors, and the adjacent Lost Sea Village offers relaxed atmosphere and activities. School groups and large parties can arrange special tours. Children 3 and under receive free admission, while military children ages 4 through 12 receive a discount.
