About The Foxfire Museum

The Foxfire Museum and Mercantile preserves Appalachian life through over 20 historic log buildings filled with artifacts from 1820 to 1940, including a Children's Village where kids explore kid-sized cabins. Visitors tour the museum's collections across 100 acres of mountainside near Black Rock Mountain State Park. The museum hosts hands-on classes in traditional crafts like weaving, blacksmithing, needle felting, and sewing, plus woodstove cooking instruction. Researchers can access the Foxfire Archive, containing nearly 60 years of oral history interviews, images, and video. The Mercantile sells handcrafted Appalachian goods and Foxfire publications. The museum suits families and heritage enthusiasts seeking an immersive look at mountain culture and traditional skills. Located in Mountain City, Georgia, it sits under two hours from Atlanta, Asheville, Greenville, and Knoxville. Hours and admission pricing are published online.
