About Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour

Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour is Illinois' first fully tree-based zipline canopy tour, set on 83 wooded acres within the Shawnee National Forest near Makanda. Visitors experience a fully guided three-hour adventure combining eight ziplines, eleven elevated tree platforms, and three aerial suspension bridges, including one stretching 180 feet. The longest zipline extends over 1,110 feet and reaches speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Three short scenic forest hikes connect the course sections, immersing guests in sandstone bluffs, native ferns, a waterfall, and a natural bouldered creek. Professional guides share information about local ecology, geology, and forest history throughout the experience. The tour accommodates guests from age eight through active adults in their nineties, weighing between 50 and 270 pounds. Participants receive complimentary bottled water and digital photos. Advance reservations are required, with tickets sold online through the venue's website.
