About New Smyrna Museum of History

The New Smyrna Museum of History preserves the heritage of one of Florida's oldest cities, founded in 1768. Visitors explore engaging exhibits covering Native Americans, the Railroad Era, the Turnbull Settlement, and East Coast surfing history. The museum store offers literature on local and Florida history, original apparel featuring images from the Sheldon reference library, local artwork by artists including surf legend Jimmy Lane, note cards, and regional food products such as datil pepper sauces and honey from Central Florida producers. The museum operates in New Smyrna Beach and welcomes all ages with exhibits and presentations designed for families. An online store allows visitors to purchase items and have them shipped home. The Southeast Volusia Historical Society, a nonprofit organization established in 1982, operates the museum to collect, archive, and display artifacts related to the local area while promoting knowledge of regional history and culture.
