Windsor Castle is the big draw if you love pomp and splendour and the nearby Legoland resort keeps the kids happy. You can also relax in the woods and pastures of the North Wessex Downs or (if your timing’s right) rock out to the likes of Arctic Monkeys and Run the Jewels at Reading Festival. Pro tip – don’t camp next to the toilets.
There are lots of lovely villages to mooch around. Pangbourne inspired Kenneth Graeme to write The Wind in the Willows and Newbury, Hungerford and Hurley are also worth checking out.
