Days out in Midlothian

With its volcanic Castle, posh New Town cafes and lively Leith pubs, Edinburgh is definitely the main draw. And don’t stress if you can’t offload your kids for the weekend – just scare them witless at The Real Mary King’s Close or Edinburgh Dungeon.

You can ski or snowboard all year round at Midlothian Snowsports Centre at Hillend or bounce about ‘til you’re dizzy at Dalkeith’s Ryze. If The Da Vinci Code is a guilty pleasure (fess up!), the eye-popping carvings at mysterious Rosslyn Chapel are a must.

And for something a bit different, take a tour of Stewart Brewing in Loanhead to sample their craft beers. Then treat your hangover with a square sausage roll and can of Irn Bru. Miracle cure, trust us!
