Learn MoreAt first glance, County Down looks very green, very lush, and very outdoorsy – which is no surprise when you learn it’s one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic and historic counties with an array of attractions at one with nature.
Don’t believe us? The Mourne mountains in the south of the county are a perfect example – hailed as one of the most beautiful corners of Northern Ireland, they’re County Down in a nutshell. Home to weaving trails, awe-inspiring scenery and legendary yarns – the dozen or so misty peaks are a must-see for walkers, ramblers and even intrepid cyclists.
But County Down is more than just a breath of fresh air, it’s also home to one of the most popular TV shows of all time. Yep, Game of Thrones was filmed here screams in superfan. Enjoy guided studio tours and immersive treks that take you to the heart of where the action was shot.
Visiting with the family? Castlewallan Forest is our recommendation – almost 500 hectares of landscaped grounds, play trails and, you guessed it, another castle which dates back to 1846. Like the Great Outdoors? You’ll love County Down.
Towns in County Down compete in an annual ‘Poshest Town’ competition. Events include: drinking prosecco while riding a horse, name dropping, and lobster wrestling. Fancy a go?
