Windsor Castletickets and tips

3 things worth shouting about:

  1. The Changing of the Guard is a must-see ceremony at Windsor Castle. Real soldiers. Fancy uniforms. Marching and stamping. Impressive stuff.
  2. Don’t miss St. George’s Chapel – a gorgeous building where Henry VIII and Charles I are buried.
  3. The Green Drawing Room in the State Apartments is where royals eat, drink and do the running man (possibly) at concerts, banquets and state receptions.

Windsor Castle tips and tricks

Bary

Bary says

"Time your trip right to see the Changing of the Guards "

The Changing of the Guards tends to be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays so time your visit to Windsor right to see it! It starts inside Windsor Castle and goes all the way down to the army barracks down the road.

Charlie

Charlie says

"You have to go through security to get in "

Before you get into the main part of the castle you need to go through an airport-style security check, make sure you have your bag ready to put through a scanner and empty your pockets. You can't take in big bags either so make sure you pack light.

Simran

Simran says

"Wear comfy shoes - there's a steep hill! "

The castle is at the top of a steep hill and there's lots of walking to do in the castle so make sure you wear comfortable shoes!

What to expect at Windsor Castle

French-built British icon, Harry Potter hangout.

Windsor Castle in Berkshire is the world’s biggest and oldest inhabited castle. Built by William the Conqueror nearly 1000 years ago, it’s become a favourite pad for British Kings and Queens ever since. Get your Windsor Castle tickets here to see this historical attraction for yourself.

As impressive as the State Apartments are, we reckon it’s the Great Kitchen that keeps guests coming back for more. A cellar with 18,000 bottles of wine. A whisk that can hold 250 eggs at a time (true fact). 33 kitchen staff. 20 chefs and sous chefs. 3 pastry chefs. The spreads here even put a Nando’s party platter in the shade.

You’ll recognise Windsor from mega-events like Harry and Meghan’s wedding, top TV like The Crown and movies like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.

Adults love the grand historic and ceremonial rooms. Kids love cute attractions like Queen Mary’s Doll’s House and multimedia tours guided by Scorch the dragon. Everyone loves touring the castle defences and finding towers, battlements, arrow slots and murder holes.

And the Pug Yard Learning Centre is a great base for families during the school holidays. There are free craft and storytelling activities, picnic areas, comfy bathrooms with changing areas and a Chill Out Zone with books and beanbags. A bit of a (posh) home from home then.
