Silverstone Museumtickets and tips

3 things worth shouting about:

  1. The past, present and future of racing is all here at the home of the British Grand Prix (the oldest race in Formula 1).
  2. Take on your mates in the Formula 1 simulator, learn to be a race commentator and see a whole load of cars. There are over 300 of them in the collection here.
  3. It’s located in a restored WW2 RAF Hanger and there’s loads of history on that too. Bonus.

What to expect at Silverstone Museum

Let’s talk about the best bit first: The Ultimate Lap. It’s an immersive, virtual lap of the Silverstone Formula 1 circuit with visuals and sounds that really make you feel like you’re in the driver’s seat. You can choose different cars (and drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel). Take your pick then race against your mates and the clock – lifetime bragging rights if you win.

And the rest of the museum isn’t too shabby either. You can keep the competitive theme going when you try On Track – the world’s best Scalextric set. You’ll learn all about the track’s history (every turn and corner has a name). And Heart of Silverstone takes you through 70 years of racing history and close to some of the most iconic cars and bikes ever. As well as amazing visuals, you’ll hear those roaring engines and even smell engine oil and brake dust!

The Tech Lab is cracking too. Experts from McLaren and Suzuki teach you all about the engineering behind the world’s fastest racing machines, you can hold a real F1 steering wheel and find out how hard it is to put your foot on the brake. If speed’s your thing, it doesn’t get any better than this.
