What to expect at SEA LIFE Scarborough

Step off the beach into an underwater world

After a Yorkshire day out that’s fun and teaches you a bit about the ocean too? Touring this Scarborough aquarium is a trip around the world’s oceans in a couple of hours – with a rainforest pitstop thrown in too.

The different zones are a real treat to wander round. You’ll see creatures of the Great Barrier Reef, including the blue spotted stingray, see sharks swimming overhead in the Ocean Tunnel and meet some of the local residents too.

Penguin Island is a special walkthrough enclosure, so you can get closer than ever to the cheeky Humboldt penguin colony, then there’s Yorkshire’s only Seal Hospital. They rescue, rehabilitate and release over 50 seals every year. They’re super cute and you get good karma for visiting the patients.

Down in Rainforest Adventure, it’s insects and reptiles that are the main characters (think posion arrow dart frogs and green tree pythons). And no prizes for guessing who’s star of the show at Otter River – the playful Asian short-clawed otters, Eric and Pumpkin, of course.
